EFKey 2.2.1

21 October 2026

Bolder autocorrect, your own photo behind the keys, six new languages and a rebuilt translator.

Autocorrect

  • Context correction got bolder. It also fixes a real word that's wrong where it stands: “this is my dig” becomes “this is my dog” once the context makes it clear. Backspace right after puts your word back.
  • Glued words split more often: “Shehad” becomes “She had”, “Thereis” becomes “There is”, Hungarian “amikoregybe” becomes “amikor egybe”. Several missed spaces in one word: “thenquicknbrownnfox” becomes “the quick brown fox”.
  • A digit hit inside a word gets fixed: “j8st” becomes “just”. Long words with several typos are corrected even after you backspace into them.
  • EFKey learns where your thumb lands on each key and adapts to it. See the map in Typing, Where you tap, and reset it if you start holding the phone differently.
  • English lost about 220,000 words that had no business being in it, so you see far fewer odd suggestions next to a swipe.

Themes

  • Your own photo as the keyboard background, with zoom and position, a fade direction, key transparency and your own text colour. Pro.
  • Liquid Glass keys in any theme. Pro.
  • The keyboard area is a shade lighter than the iOS strip above it, like the system keyboard.

New languages

  • English (Australia) and English (Canada): colour and centre stay as typed, with Canadian spelling for Canada.
  • Luxembourgish, with ë, é and ä on the keys.
  • Telugu, Malayalam and Tamil by transliteration: type in Latin letters and the word goes in in its own script. “ente” becomes എന്റെ.
  • 90 languages in all.

Chinese

  • The 10-key keyboard works like the 9-key keyboards Chinese users know: punctuation and syllables in the left column, 分隔 at the top left, 换行 and 重输 under delete, and easier to read pinyin. 换行 adds a new line in chats instead of sending.
  • The 123 page and the bottom row match Apple's, with long-press digits and 全/半 marks.
  • The app and the keyboard speak Chinese too, Simplified and Traditional.

New features

  • Number pad on demand: hold 123, or add it to the bar. The number row is lower, like on iPhone, and that can be switched off.
  • Large emoji, 7 across like the iPhone keyboard. The emoji row on the 123 page scrolls through 30 favourites, and an emoji suggestion stays in the bar after the space.
  • The translator is rebuilt: translate while you type, pick the target language on the keys, AI and translation in one step, translate with context. Pro.
  • Your own AI actions next to Fix, Reword, Formal and Casual. Pro.
  • Dictation takes you back to the app you were typing in once the mic is on, writes numbers as digits, uses your own word replacements, and translates on the device without an API key.
  • A password copied from the Passwords app leaves the clipboard history once it expires.
  • Remove tracking: long-press a link in the clipboard history to strip utm_source, fbclid and the like, and keep the clean link.

New switches

  • Setup profiles (Like iPhone, EFKey or Mine) set everything in one tap. Each screen is split into the basics and More settings, and the long descriptions moved behind ⓘ.
  • Autocorrect where apps turn it off, for fields like YouTube search. Off by default.
  • Attach punctuation to the word: with it off, a space you type before ! or ? stays.
  • Shift changes the word, the selection, or both. Shift before a swipe changes the word you just swiped or the next one.
  • Backspace deletes a swiped word letter by letter and Letters after a suggestion continue the word. Both off by default.
  • Compact number row, Large emoji, Emoji after space and Web address layout.
  • Bold text has three options, and Never also wins over iOS Bold Text.
  • Swipe up on the spacebar has its own action, separate from swipe down.
  • Words without spaces for Arabic: type انشاءالله and the bar offers إن شاء الله.
  • Transliteration letters in the text field for Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.
  • Also switch to it on its own: a language from a pair can be in the switcher by itself too.

In the LAB

  • Scrollable suggestions: drag the bar sideways for up to 12, or 3 at a time with the best one in the middle.
  • Period instead of space: “in.this” becomes “in this”.
  • Smooth suggestions: old ones fade out, new ones show up right away.
  • Remove tracking from pasted links: everything you paste through EFKey comes out clean.

Typing and keys

  • Spanish accents across two words: “no se que” becomes “no sé qué”. Italian “Lui e felice” becomes “Lui è felice”, and è, sì, un'amica and po' work.
  • 1st, 2nd and 3pm stay as typed.
  • A word picked from the bar gets its space right away, like on iPhone.
  • The letter preview pops up and goes away as fast as on the system keyboard.
  • The cursor on the space bar is more precise, with a clear tick for every character and speed sliders that run from 🐢 to 🐇.
  • Shift and delete are narrower, like on iPhone.
  • Japanese gets more candidates and single kanji, Hebrew abbreviations like בג"ץ stay one word, and German noun capitals are handled by autocorrect.

iPad

  • Its own layout with tab, caps lock, delete at the top and a hide key.
  • The toolbar and suggestions use the full width.

Fixes

  • The keyboard opens faster, with a nicer animation.
  • Keys stay in the right case after you switch apps mid-word.
  • Dictation with Bluetooth headphones starts again after you come back from the app.
  • My themes: long-press opens the theme you pressed, and edits save.
  • A new word is learned only after a few uses, and the Learning section shows how far along it is.
  • Backups have the date and time in the file name.

EFKey 2.2

12 October 2026

Seven new languages, a new typing engine, and a keyboard that learns how you type.

New languages

  • Chinese, Simplified and Traditional: Pinyin, Zhuyin and Cangjie.
  • Japanese: kana or romaji, with kanji.
  • Korean: 2-set and 10-key.
  • Tamil (Tamil 99), Serbian in Cyrillic and Roman Urdu.
  • 84 languages in all. Punjabi and Persian layouts match iOS. Catalan, Slovenian, Maltese, Ukrainian and six more get the extra keys of iOS.

New typing engine

  • Autocorrect, prediction and swipe run on a new engine, on your iPhone. Names and foreign words are left alone more often.
  • It learns where you tap. After about 30 letters, corrections account for where your thumb lands.
  • Fix a typo once from the bar and it's fixed on its own next time. Backspace right after undoes it.
  • Phrases you type every day complete from the two words before.
  • The next word fixes the one before it: “there to he more” becomes “there to be more”.
  • “ihave” becomes “I have”, also in the middle of a sentence.
  • Spanish accents from context: “dime donde” becomes “dime dónde”.
  • Each language you use downloads its data in the app. Until it's there, that language types as before.

Language pairs

  • As many pairs as you like, up to five languages: English with Spanish for work, German with Italian for family. Each pair is one row with its own page and switches with one tap.

Keys

  • Swipe down on a key to type the character in its corner. Off by default.
  • Select text with the space bar.
  • Put your own character on the comma or period key.
  • Symbols on long-press can be turned off; accents stay.
  • -- becomes an em dash, and 5--3 becomes 5–3.
  • Spanish ¿? and ¡! come in pairs.
  • Language code on the space bar: always, while typing, or never.

Swipe

  • Swipe several words in one stroke through the space bar. Off by default.
  • Deleting a swiped word unlearns it. Fewer names among the alternatives.

iPhone Duo and iPad

  • On the inner display the keyboard has the right size and adapts when you fold or unfold, even mid-typing. In landscape it splits into two halves.
  • iPad: a new Split keyboard option, off by default.

Tools and settings

  • Settings search finds 70 more settings and scrolls to the row.
  • Dictation capitalizes “I” and new sentences, and downloads a missing language model itself.
  • A GIF over the size limit is copied smaller instead of failing.
  • Importing an EFKey backup restores every word.
  • Turn off the space after punctuation.

Fixes

  • Tapping a suggestion replaces only the word under the cursor.
  • Deleted word pairs stay deleted.
  • Typing fast after a number no longer splits the next word.
  • Key sounds follow the iOS sound setting.
